I love the tactile and
visual experience of painting in pastels. I work with
a pure form of pigment, washing heavily toothed papers
with pastel and oil glazes and then build layer upon layer
of pastels to create illustrations with depth, texture
patterns and strong bold colors. By creating and developing
characters and backgrounds that are full of patterns and
dynamic color combinations, I’m able to capture
the imagination, drawing it into a suspended place and
time where I can offer a visual story.
I continually seek to develop these characters and narrative
visual compositions. I enjoy creating memorable contemporary
illustrations that include a degree of depth, the element
of whimsical childlike humor, joy, and fear, with an attention
to the subtle nuances of the moment.
